1st XI Match Reports
PNBHS 1st XI Hockey v Wanganui Rangers & Auckland Grammar - Saturday 5th May & Sunday 6th May
The PNBHS 1st XI hockey team had a successful weekend of hockey beating the Wanganui Rangers hockey team on Saturday (5th May) 5-3 & Auckland Grammar on Sunday (6th May) 4-1.
Saturday’s game was against a combined Wanganui High School/Wanganui Collegiate & Wanganui Old Boy’s side and was evenly contested. In the end, two goals each to Hayden Phillips & Nathan Yanez & one to Nick Davey together with a solid defensive effort was enough to earn a victory. This was a very pleasing result.
Sunday’s game was against a very strong Auckland side, fresh from an Australian campaign against strong Australian sides in Melbourne. Auckland Grammar started strongly but two Josh Smith goals and a Nathan Yanez goal saw PNBHS ahead 3-1 at the break. A sole Hayden Phillips goal in the second half saw PNBHS the victors 4-1. PNBHS players were very competitive and their “foot on the throat” hardened attitude was a pleasing aspect of their play. Regan Evitt was solid in goal & Olly Lombard organised the defensive pattern well.
Thanks for the many PNBHS supporters who watched this game. Have a great week.
PNBHS 1st XI v Massey Hockey team Saturday 28th April
The PNBHS 1st XI hockey team played the Massey hockey team on Saturday (28th April) and lost 10 nil. The half time score was only 1 nil down which was pleasing. However, defending men’s champions Massey showed their superior class in the second half and scored some very good goals. PNBHS players were rotated on a regular basis to try and help determine their positions in the 1st XI for the year, and this didn’t help with continuity of the defensive screen. There were some pleasing aspects of the game which the 1st XI will be looking to build on for the year.
