1st XV Reunions

The School has been pleased to host reunions of the 1966, 1976, 1986 and 1996 1st XVs. The general format consisted of drinks on the Friday night. Then Morning tea and group picture at 11.00 followed by watching a 1st XV game. 1986 watched the Gisborne BHS match, 1976 Hastings BHS and 1966 and 1996 watched the Tauranga College game on 2 July.

1966 and 1997 1st XV reunions
These two teams had their 50 and 20 year reunions on the same weekend. The 1966 team, led by captain Jerry Rowberry attended Assembly on Friday morning. On Friday evening, they had a meet and greet at College House for all attending.
On Saturday morning, the 1996 reunion team took to the field against the 4th XV – old age and experience compensated for aging bodies!
After the match, both 1966 and 1996 teams went on a tour around the school. For the 1966 team especially, the changes to the school are huge. Neither team would have thought the Speirs Performing Arts Centre was possible, nor the modern Tech block. In fact, when the 1966 team were at school, the old school block was still the main building of the school.
1966 team had their dinner on Saturday night at Nero’s – a top restaurant run by old boy, Scott Kennedy. The 1996 had their dinner in the College House Function Room. Both were fitting ends to a good weekend.
