Drama

Drama expresses human experience through a focus on role, action, and tension, played out in time and space.

Design & Visual Communication

Design and Visual Communication at PNBHS is the study and practice of the design process and visual presentation techniques. 

Electronics

Electronics is the study of how electrical circuits and components work together to control the flow of electricity and perform useful tasks. In a high school context, it introduces students to the basics of electricity, circuits, and components such as resistors, capacitors, and transistors.

English as Additional Language

English as an Additional Language (EAL) classes provide students with a supportive literacy programme through explicit teaching of the four English language modes of listening, speaking, reading and writing. 

Gateway

The aim of the programme is to provide students with the opportunity to complete a work placement in a trade/vocation of their choosing making them as 'work ready' as possible. They complete both industry theory and practical NZQA recognised unit standards.

Languages

Learning a new language provides a means of communicating with people from another culture and exploring one’s own personal world.

Learning Support

Learning Support classes are offered to a select number of young men who struggle in their academic studies and are provided with extra assistance in literacy and numeracy.

Library

Palmerston North Boys’ High School has a well-resourced library located on site, fit with a computer suite, for student use.

Maori

Te Reo Māori is the cornerstone of all that is Māori. Accelerating the revival of te reo Māori is a central focus of the Māori Department. Te reo Māori is the medium through which Māori explain the world. The survival of the people as Māori, and the uniqueness of Māori as a race.

Media Studies

Media Studies courses are like a combination of English, Economics and Psychology. We look at how media products are created ( the ‘doing and making’ part of English ), we look at commercial considerations and how profit is made ( economics ) and how media impacts the thoughts, feelings and behaviour of the masses ( Psychology ). 

Music

Sound from natural, acoustic, and digital environments is the source material for expressive ideas in music. These ideas are manipulated and extended into forms, genres, and styles that are recognised as music.

Physical Education & Health

The focus is on the well-being of the students themselves, of other people, and of society through learning in health-related and movement contexts.

Vocational Training


Technology

Technology is intervention by design: the use of practical and intellectual resources to develop products and systems that expand human possibilities by addressing needs and realising opportunities.

Visual Art

The Visual Arts offer a way of engaging with that world through the creation and study of artworks.
