• NCEA Excellence Awards – these awards were presented at an academic assembly in the last week of Term I. Young men who achieved Excellence Endorsements for NCEA in 2018 were presented with Super Eight Scholars badges. See article in Deputy Rector’s Report
  • Swimming – the annual School Swimming Championships were held in the last week of Term I. In the two categories, Individual events and Relays, the club placings were thus: Individual Events: Kia Ora were first, followed by Vernon, Phoenix, Gordon, Murray and Albion. In the Relays, Kia Ora were again first, followed by Murray, Gordon, Albion, Vernon and Murray.

  • Road Race – also in the last week of Term I, the U14 event was won by Reuben Duker, the U15 race by Sam Stichbury, U16 Liam Wall and Senior event Luke Scott.
    In the Junior event Gordon finished first, followed by Albion, Kia Ora, Murray, Vernon and Phoenix.
    In the Junior Intermediate: Vernon first, then Albion, Gordon, Kia Ora, Murray, Phoenix.
    Major Intermediate: Murray first, then Vernon, Kia Ora, Gordon, Albion and Phoenix.
    Senior: Albion, Kia Ora, Phoenix, Murray, Vernon, Gordon

  • Shand Shield Touch – this year’s event was won by Vernon, with Gordon second, then Albion, Phoenix, Kia Ora and Murray.
  • New prefects 5New prefects 4Prefects – Cassius Henman and Chris Lyons were added to the prefect group in the last week of Term I.

 

 

  • Ki O Rahi – at the NZSS Championships in Hastings during the school holidays, the combined PNBHS/PNGHS team finished fifth. Tipene Treacy was selected in the NZ Maori team.
  • ANZAC Service – the annual ANZAC Service was held in the first week of the term, with the weather holding for an excellent commemoration.

  • Cross Country 2019 Doms 1Cross Country – Well done to all our young men who took part in the Cross Country race today at the Keebles Farm. Congratulations to the following young men on their placings:
    Senior
    1st – Benjamin Wall, 2nd – Andre Le Pine-Day, 3rd – Luke Scott
    Intermediate
    1st – Liam Wall, 2nd – Nelson Doolan, 3rd – Luke Brown
    Junior
    1st – Reuben Duker, 2nd – Fergus Doolan, 3rd – Max ConnorMurray was first in the club placings, with Albion and Gordon second equal, Kia Ora fourth and Phoenix and Vernon fifth equal.

  • Archery – Chisora Hada won a silver medal in the Junior Men’s Freestyle Recurve event at the IFAA World Indoor Archery Championships held in Wellington.
  • Royal Society Scholarship – Deputy Head Prefect John Cole has earned a Royal Society Scholarship to travel to Bulgaria where he will attend a series of workshops and presentations on developing research skills in mathematics, infomatics and applied science.
  • 59759567_2652739768075496_4691326746593591296_nCross Country –three teams (Senior, Junior and Year 9) competed in the Wellington Secondary Schools relay championship. The Senior team won their event, breaking a record that had stood for 10 years. The Junior and Year 9 teams both finished runners-up in their events.
  • Football –the 1stXI, 2ndXI and Junior A football teams all had wins over St Pat’s Town in their annual winter exchange.
  • Management Consulting Competition –a four-man team of Nikhil Bannerjee, John Cole, William Wood and Antariksh Nag made it into the finals for the first time of the Auckland University competition.
  • Orienteering –the PNBHS team won the Manawatu Secondary Schools Trophy at the recent regional event. The first three finishers in both the Junior and Senior event were PNBHS pupils.
  • Scholarships –Xavier Bowe and Davis Farrar-Ferguson have been selected to participate in the Whakapiki Ake careers in health programme at the University of Auckland.
  • Cross Country –at the Manawatu SS Championships held at Manawatu College in Foxton, PNBHS runners performed well. In the Junior event, Reuben Duker finished first in a new course record of 14:59, with Thomas Duncan second and Jonathan Jamieson third. Four PNBHS runners finished inside the first ten finishers. Liam Wall won the Intermediate race with Nelson Doolan third and PNBHS runners taking out the remaining top ten spots. Benjamin Wall won the Senior event with Andre Le Pine-Day third and PNBHS runners filling the next four places. Each four-man team won their event.
  • Super Eight Cultural Festival – the school played host to more than 500 young men from across the Super Eight schools, competing in 15 categories. PNBHS won four of these categories: Senior Debating (Andrew Karatea, John Cole and William Wood); Music Group – the outstanding Stage Band; Senior Music Solo – Ciaran Carroll and Junior Music Solo – Henry Yan. There were several other meritorious performances from both groups and individuals. See separate article about the Festival.
